TCBAP Certification Renewal 

 
 
 

Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor - (AADC) formerly the Advanced Addiction Counselor (AAC):
The AADC certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for re-certification shall include:

1.  Currently active in the field of alcoholism and drug abuse counseling.
2.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
3.  Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education, including three hours of ethics and three hours of clinical supervision.
4.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable re-certification fees.

Alcohol and Drug Counselor - (ADC)
The ADC certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for re-certification shall include:

1.  Currently active in the field of alcoholism and drug abuse counseling.
2.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
3.  Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education.
4.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable recertification fees.

The ACPS certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for recertification shall include:

1.  Currently active in the field of alcoholism and drug abuse prevention.
2.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
3.  Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education in the prevention domains (explained in application).
4.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable re-certification fees.

Certified Prevention Specialist - (CPS)
The CPS certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for re-certification shall include:

1.  Currently active in the field of alcoholism and drug abuse prevention.
2.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
3.  Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education in the prevention domains (explained in application).
4.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable re-certification fees.

Certified Chemical Dependency Specialist - (CCDS)

The CCDS certification shall be issued for a period of two years,therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for recertification shall include:

1.  Currently active and licensed in the field of alcoholism and drug abuse counseling.
2.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
3.  Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education.
4.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable recertification fees.

Certified Clinical Supervisor - (CCS)
The CCS certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for recertification shall include:

1.  Currently active as a supervisor in the field of addiction counseling.
2.  Currently certified as an ADC, AADC, or CCJP.
3.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
4.  Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education.  Documentation of current ADC, AADC, or CCJP certification shall serve as verification of this requirement.  However, six of the forty hours must be specific to clinical supervision.
5.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable re-certification fees.

Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor - (CCGC)
The CCGC certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for recertification shall include:

1.  Currently active in the field of addiction counseling.
2.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
3.  Completion of six (6) hours of continuing education related to gambling counseling.
4.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable re-certification fees.

Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJP)
The CCJP certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to recertify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for re-certification shall include:

1.  Currently active in the field of criminal justice addictions counseling.
2.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
3.  Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education in the CCJP performance domains.
4.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable recertification fees.

Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional Applicant Status (CCJP-A)
The CCJP-A certification shall be issued for a period of five years, in which time you must meet the requirments for the full CCJP and pass the IC&RC International written CCJP exam.  The requirements for recertification shall include:

1.  Currently active in the field of criminal justice addictions counseling.
2.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
3.  Completion of 270 hours of continuing education in the eight CCJP performance domains earned since the last issuance of your CCJP-A, including:

  • Dynamics of Addiction and Criminal Behavior
  • Legal, Ethical and Professional Responsibiity
  • Criminal Justice Systems and Processes
  • Clinical Evaluation:  Screening and Assessment
  • Treatment Planning
  • Case Management, Monitoring and Participant Supervision
  • Counseling
  • Documentation

4.  Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards and applicable recertification fees.
5.  Must have taken the IC&RC International ADC and at least attempted the separate Supplemental CCJP Exam.

Certified Supervisor Consultant (CSC)

The CSC certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for re-certification shall include:

1.  Currently active as a supervisor in the field of addiction counseling.
2.  Currently certified as an ADC, AAC, or CCJP.
3.  Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
4.  Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education.  Documentation of current ADC, AAC, or CCJP certification shall serve as verification of this requirement.  However, six of the forty hours must be specific to clinical supervision.

Peer Recovery Support (PRS)

The PRS certification shall be issued for a period of two years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two years on that same date.  The requirements for re-certification shall include:

1. 20 hours of continuing education earned every two years, including six hours in ethics.

2. Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.

Peer Mentor / Peer Recovery Coach Designation - (PM/PRC)
The PM/PRC designation shall be issued for a period of two (2) years, therefore requiring an individual to renew every two (2) years on that same date. The requirements for re-designation shall be as follows:

1. Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
2. Completion of twenty (20) hours of Peer Recovery Support continuing education, including six hours of ethics training.
3. Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards for Peer Mentor/Peer Recovery Coach designation.
4. The fee for re-designation shall be $60.00.

Associate Prevention Specialists Designation (APS) 
The APS certification shall be issued for a period of two (2) years, therefore requiring an individual to re-certify every two (2) years on that same date. The requirements for re-certification shall be as follows:

1. Absent of any ethical or malpractice violations.
2. Submission of an application including a signed copy of the ethical standards for APS and renewal fee
3. Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing education in five prevention domains: Community Organization, Education and Skill Development, Planning and Evaluation, Professional Growth and Responsibility, Public Policy and Environmental change 
4. The fee for re-certification $100.00 renewal fee
